Who Is Ryan?

Ryan Hampton is a former White House staffer who has worked with multiple non-profits and national recovery advocacy campaigns. 

He was singled out by Forbes as a top social entrepreneur and has been featured by—and is a contributor to—media outlets such as USA Today, Fox and Friends, The New York TimesThe Wall Street Journal, NPR, MSNBC, HLN, Vice, Forbes, Slate, HuffPost, The Hill and others.

His first book, American Fix — Inside the Opioid Addiction Crisis and How to End It, published by St. Martin’s Press, was released in August 2018.

How did he learn the process that he walks clients through?

In his words:

When my book was coming out, I went through my phone and all my contacts—friends of mine who owned big businesses or worked for big businesses—and I just made a list of their name, the organization or the business or the coalition they were with and their phone number. And I spent about a week on the phone with all of them and I said, “If you purchase anything over 250 copies of my book in advance, or once it comes out, I’ll come to your company, do a book signing or event. You can call the format. It can be moderated. I can give a keynote, however you want to do it. I'll do a press release, I'll make some phone calls to local press and we'll get press out there so they can cover your story and what you guys are doing and having this author out there.” I sold something like 6000 books that way.

I had very few people say no. It was great because they had something to use as a marketing technique. I said, “Why don't you put in the front of the book that this is a gift courtesy of your company and invite outside people in?' I tried to make it an opportunity for them to get some business. I had one company I didn’t know who bought 1000 copies and brought me to Minneapolis for three days. They're bringing me back next and they just bought another 1000 copies of my book. This system works.
